4. Paternity Leave
Expectant fathers or partners may be entitled to Paternity Leave. To be eligible for Paternity Leave an employee must have or expect to have responsibility for the child's upbringing, be the biological father of the child, the husband or partner of the mother (including same-sex relationships) or the adoptive parent. From April 2026, there is no minimum service requirement for Paternity Leave. This is now a day-one right for eligible employees. An employee may take either one week, two consecutive weeks' or two separate week’s (in one-week periods) Paternity Leave, but not odd days. Leave can start on any day of the week but not before the baby is born or the child is place for adoption.
